Bill McKibben in Omaha

Title Clean Energy Rally in front of Union Pacific HQ - Omaha

Start Thursday 17 of June, 2010 11:00:00 CST
End Thursday 17 of June, 2010 12:00:00 CST

WHAT: 350.org co-founder and author Bill McKibben will be in Omaha for a peaceful public protest.

McKibben’s 1989 book, The End of Nature, was the first study to sound the alarm about global warming. In the past two decades, McKibben has worked tirelessly to cultivate international awareness of the threat of climate change to life on earth. And a quick look at the 350.org website will show how successful his efforts have been.

Along with world-renowned NASA climatologist James Hansen, U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change chair Rajendra Pachauri (who shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore) and South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, McKibben has assembled a host of international “350 Messengers” to spread the word about the need to halt the spike in greenhouse gas emissions and bring them down from their current height of 389 ppm.

Prior to the 11:00 protest where he will be the featured speaker, we have hopes of getting him an opportunity to speak during the 'public comment period' at the monthly Omaha Public Power District meeting, which starts at 10:00 a.m. and usually runs less than an hour.

WHERE: 14th & Douglas Streets

Sponsored by Nebraskans for Peace and other organizations
